OUR HERITAGE
Goodwin Smith's history started back in 1928 when two rival British shoemakers stood face to face arguing about who made the better shoe - Ernie Goodwin or Walter Smith. They came from different backgrounds, Ernie a former Manchester City footballer & Walter a former coal miner, but they each shared the same ideals - namely a passion for making quality footwear. Despite starting out as rivals, they quickly became friends and joined forces to create The Bacup Shoe Company
1928 - PRESENT DAY
Nearly 100 years later the company is still going strong under the leadership of Walter Smith's great grandson, Tim Smith.
"I founded Goodwin Smith to celebrate the lives of two exceptional shoemakers. We ensure all of our designs are handcrafted using premium leather whilst keeping our prices affordable - just as my Grandfather would have wanted. Goodwin Smith offers luxury footwear at charming prices."
